Sauti Sol return from Mali and head to Texas

The award winning and celebrated afro pop four-piece band, Sauti Sol are back in Kenya! This is following their sea and ground-shaking performance at the 8th edition of the Festival on the Niger River held in Segou, the ancient and second largest city of Mali.

With their matchless voices and swanky yet soulful songs, on February 17th and on a stage set right above the great Niger River, the band stole the hearts of revelers from around the world and those of keen Malian listeners, despite the language barrier. They performed alongside world stars Salif Keita, Habib Koite and Rokia Traore in front of thousands of fans.

So outstanding was their performance that after their departure from stage, Habib Koite called them, thrice–to join him on stage! Sharing a platform with one of their African music icons was an emotional moment. The band was wowed by how they were celebrated in a foreign land, and Mali’s utmost love for their music and culture. Sauti Sol are in close contact with Lokua Kanza among other big Malian singers and are planning on working in conjunction on music collaborations/ projects.

They were making an East African debut at the world renowned festival that celebrates world music and sprouting talent on a world platform, an event that lasted between 15th – 19th February.

This March Sauti Sol will represent Kenya at one of the world’s biggest music convention featuring bands from around the world, the South by South West (SXSW) music festival, held in Austin Texas, USA. Joined by Kenyan first-timers at the festival, Just-A-Band (JAB), Sauti Sol will this year be making their second return at the festival that annually hosts hundreds of awesome bands from around the globe.
