Only a few months old, the newest Italian addition to Nairobi’s vibrant restaurant scene is Zafferano. Located in the heart of Westlands, with its competitors in the area closing down and moving shop, Zafferano is poised to capitalize on Westland’s foodies and pasta-lovers.
Situated in a new office building, Zafferano lacks the charming al fresco garden dining space but makes up for it with an expansive terrace that overlooks the secure carpark with plenty of space for busy nights.
The interiors ooze romance and intimacy with comfortable fine dining chairs and plentiful ambient lighting that basks the dining room in a soft golden glow.
Zafferano definitely serves up some delicious thin-crusted brick-oven pizza. Their menu also features a diverse selection of Italian specialties, healthy gourmet salads and some quick lunch meals such as burgers and Panini.
Must tries include salads such as: Tuscany with fresh and crispy green apples and feta cheese; and Roma Salad with halloumi cheese, grilled aubergines, red bell peppers, sweetcorn, and toasted sunflower seeds – just to name a few.

Baked oyster gratin with shallot dressing and lemon: Fresh oysters accentuated with a grainy gratin. A bit on the dry side, hence the starter comes with a shallot balsamic dressing for you to drench the oysters with. However, a balsamic-based dressing overpowers the unique fresh flavours of the oysters.
Minestrone soup: A delicious hardy staple to tantalize your taste buds in preparation of your mains.
Pizza foresta e fattoria: Brick-oven baked pizza with tomato, mozzarella, chicken, mushrooms, and rocket. Crisp and thin-crusted, just as it should be!
Homemade tortelloni stuffed with pumpkin and sage in a burnt butter sauce. A great dish on the menu full of comfort and flavours, however, the pasta was over-salted.
