Phoenix Players: Death and the Maiden

Chilean play, Death and the Maiden, written by playwright Ariel Dorfman will be premiering at Nairobi’s Phoenix Players Friday, November 4.

The play, strictly for mature audiences only, conveys the story of a former political prisoner who was raped by her captors. Years later, the former prisoner coincidentally meets her captor again, and takes him captive in order to put him on trial and extract a confession from him.

Full of surprises, suspense and intensity; Death and the Maiden will definitely leave you hanging.

The Nairobi production runs from November 4th – 19th and features some of Kenya’s best acting and directing talents. Returning to the stage after a five year hiatus is Capital FM presenter Maqbul Mohammed, and Gakunju Kaigwa, whom has not stepped on the stage since the 90s.

Directed by Mumbi Kaigwa, the accomplished actress also stars in the production as Paulina Salas, the former political prisoner, in which the philosophical thriller revolves around.
