Kenyan men don’t like Nigerians anymore. This time round, it has nothing to do with the ideas and nightmares their wives and girlfriends get after watching Afro-cinema. It’s because they are getting all the girls!

It is not uncommon to see many a gorgeous Kenyan girl painting the arms of flashy Nigerian men. When they dance and twirl them around in clubs, the looks of disdain almost jump off the faces of Kenyan men.

Even though the official population of women exceeds that of men, Kenyan males are not happy about all the interest the women have suddenly developed for Nigerian men.

What started off with trepidation because of all Nigerian men in Kenya being suspected to be drug dealers or con artists, is now in full swing because honest businessmen and diplomats from the West African nation have nearly wiped out that notion.

As a result, Kenyan ladies have been unable to resist the charms of the often tall well-dressed men.

*Hellen says the reason she would prefer to date a Nigerian man is because they treat their women with more respect.

“Even if they were being unfaithful to you, you would never be able to guess. They buy you clothes, flowers and other beautiful things without expecting anything in return. It makes you feel special.”

She has also branded Kenyan men as liars and unromantic – at least most of them.

However, Kenyan men insist that it’s all about the money.

*Mark says Kenyan women are greedy and are only interested in money and nothing else.

“They are dating Nigerians because of money. Most of them just want to sit at home and keep getting money. Its nonsense,” he says.

But *Betty is of a different opinion.

“It’s about attention. They give us loads of attention. At the end of the day that’s all a girl wants. Not all of them have money. And just like our Kenyan men, when they are a broke ass, they are a broke ass. But when they have money, unlike our Kenyan men, they will spend it on us.”

She says with Kenyan men, they will rarely spend their cash on their girlfriends, preferring to lavish gifts on their ‘ndogo ndogos’ instead.

In Nigerian-Kenyan relationships the first attraction is grooming. Nigerian men dress and smell good, and often their women are meant to be a reflection of who they are.

“You see that bag, I bought that for her. You see that beautiful hair, I took her to the salon.”

With the West Africans it’s not a struggle. With their Kenyan men however, girls often resort to nicking cash when the boys come home drunk with lipstick on their shirts.

*Fred on his part thinks that Nigerian men chat up Kenya chicks because they are easy.

“Nigerian women are harsh and not too easy. So it’s not difficult for them to bag a Kenyan chick.”

Elsewhere, *Peter agrees that Kenyan men mistreat their women, and don’t respect them.

“Most of us only want women for sex, and its clear from the get go. Once we get that we mistreat them. There are very few Kenyan men who have genuine respect for women.”
