The heavy rains on Friday night provided an intimate setting for the extremely talented Atemi Oyungu and UK based neo soul magician Omar Lye-Fouk, who sung their hearts out in Club Volar.

Supported by her band, whom she affectionately nick-named ‘The Atemites’, the songstress performed some new tracks off her upcoming album.

Warmly dressed fans gazed in awe as Atemi started off the night strongly with her track “Amani”, and it went uphill from there!

Anthony Mwangi, better known as @Antoneosoul, was the emcee for the evening, showing off his vocals while testing the microphones.

The festivities were moved indoors after noon-showers refused to let up in Nairobi, the Atemites pitching camp in one of the corner of Volar.

Boy-band Sauti Sol and musician Kaz were present to support the great talent displayed at the venue, in an experience that left the crowd yearning for more.

Each musician performed for roughly an hour, Atemi stringing out Happy and Speechless among her many hit songs, while Omar graced the Nairobi night with his yet to be released title-track for his upcoming album ‘The Man’.

The two collaborated on “Be Thankful” originally done by Omar and the award winning soul singer Erykah Badu.

Omar surprised Anthony by calling him to the stage to sing alongside them, and he did not disappoint, taking the music in stride.

Prior to the performance, Omar, who has a background in classical music had insisted that ‘The Atemites’ play while reading music, something unheard of in Kenyan scenes.

Omar was of the view that reading music while playing eliminated errors and the Kenyan ‘wing it’ attitude.

Meanwhile, a Mombasa show scheduled for Saturday was cancelled due to unforseeable circumstances.
