They are baggy, they are saggy and they have a “crotch heavy” look to them. Some even swear that anyone who wears them looks like they are wearing over-sized diapers. Harem pants are what they are called and if you like MC Hammer pants, parachute pants plus they have a host of other names…Aladdin pants, balloon pants etc.
The harem pants are long baggy pants that are tapered at the ankle and mostly with side flaps on the hip that button at the waist area. Think of what a skirt and a pair of skinny jeans would produce. They are normally fitted from the knees downwards and very loose at the crotch area. They are very roomy and have the over-sized look to them.
Well, this is a trend I don’t think much of personally but I have to admit that there are a few (very few) people who can pull off this fashion creation hence making the saying “One man’s meat is another man’s poison” …the truest saying ever. However, the cotton ones with a smaller crotch I can give a try.
The harem pants evoke mixed feelings…not just in the Nairobi fashion scene but the world over. There are those who would be lost without their beloved harem pants while there those who don’t give two about them. I mean, it’s not normal that you want to add extra hips onto yourself to make you look bulky. They tend to add thickness in the thigh/butt area. So for the very curvy figures…harem pants should be a no-no!
In Europe, harem pants have been popular for a while now. The Europeans are more confident and more comfortable wearing them and almost anyone in Europe wears them… both men and women. It’s from Europe that the harem trouser got back on the fashion scene.
So what do you think? Would you give the harem pants a miss or a hit?
