Newest trend: Yoga for dogs

August 17, 2011 – A five-millennia-old practice, Yoga, is still going strong and evolving with the diverse lifestyles of modern urbanites.

Earlier in the month, we learned a little about the controversial extreme yoga practice of Naked Yoga where practitioners practiced yoga without any clothes, arguing that without clothes to hide behind an individual will open up mentally and spiritually.

So what’s next? Well with dogs being known as ‘Man’s best friend’ and appearing in every celebrity’s carry-on bag, it’s no surprise that their human counterparts are coaxing them into the yoga trend.  That’s right, Yoga for dogs… ‘Doga.’

Doga: Yoga for dogs

Doga, a new practice meant for the dog body and soul has become the hottest Yoga obsession in Hong Kong.

Spearheaded by a South African Yoga instructor, dogs can now practice yoga with their human owners.

With many of the Yoga poses being derived and named after animal movements like the downward-facing dog and up-dog, teaching these movements to your dog seems like the natural thing to do.

Doga practioners believe that through their sessions, they are able to ensure that their animals experience a calm sense and state.

So what do you think?  Do you think dogs can meditate, better yet, hold a Tree Pose?!
