Kim Kardashian sues Old Navy for her look-a-like

July 21, 2011 – Old Navy is being sued by Kim Kardashian for “the unauthorised use of Kardashian’s name, likeness, identity, and persona.”

Since Februrary 2011, Old Navy, a clothing label targeting the masses with fashion staples at economical prices, has been using a multimedia advertising campaign that features a Kardashian look-a-like.

Melissa Molinaro, not only naturally looks like Kardashian but also has her hair and make-up styled to replicate the socialite in the ad campaign.

Molinaro’s music video-inspired campaign promotes the Old Navy’s jeans and has had more than 1.7 million hits, becoming a viral hit.

“Kim Kardashian is immediately recognizable and is known for her look and style.  Her identity and persona are valuable.  When her intellectual property rights are violated, she intends to enforce them,” states Kardashian’s lawyer.

Perhaps the real reason for Kardashian’s expensive fury is that she thinks Old Navy is below her and she doesn’t want to be associated to a clothing label that appeals to the masses; or, Kardashian just simply can’t stand someone sharing her looks and also rumoured to be dating pro athletes.

Surely, there are many celebrity look-a-likes everywhere; are they all going to be sued?
