May 30, 2011 – Chris Kirubi, also fondly known as DJ CK, received an honorary degree from Swiss Management Academy during their graduation ceremony on May 28th, 2011 at Lord Errol Restaurant.
Celebrating 30 years of academic excellence and their third graduation ceremony in Nairobi, it seemed fitting that the Swiss Management Academy invited one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Kenya as their guest of honour.
In Kirubi’s speech, the guest of honour inspired and challenged the new graduates.
“Your life is in your hands,” says Kirubi as he spoke about the importance of setting goals for oneself. “Don’t think small, think big graduates.”
Kirubi reassured the graduates that there are many possibilities out there, but it is important to remember to work hard and that the road to success is not easy.
“To be an entrepreneur is difficult. You have to risk your capital and trust other people. As a result, you cannot do it alone.”
Kirubi believes that working with people from various backgrounds and experiences is the only way to grow.
Before concluding his speech, Kirubi reminded the graduates of his humble beginnings, the importance of education, and the need to use what you’ve learned.
“We [Kenyans] struggle so much to get educated. Now, why don’t we struggle just as hard to use it?”
Kirubi was presented with an honorary degree from Swiss Management Academy for his achievements in the business community, leadership, and entrepreneurial spirit.
Swiss Management Academy (SMA) was founded in 1981 in Zurich, Switzerland and opened its Nairobi campus in 2003.
SMA Class of 2011 included graduates from their BBA and MBA programs.
