May 9, 2011 – Samsung Electronics will hold a five-day exhibition in Nairobi, the second of its kind in the region, to showcase its latest innovations available to the local market.
Starting Wednesday, the Samsung Africa Forum 2011 will host business people and consumers to a convention, crucial in reflecting the company’s growth in the region, according to Samsung Electronics East Africa business Leader Robert Ngeru.
“This year’s forum will comprise key media, customers, distributors and top Samsung executives and government officials,” he promised.
The five day convergence will be staged at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre, a year after the inaugural event was staged in Johannesburg, South Africa.
“Our aim is to promote co-operation, innovation and the exchange of new ideas in technology with hundreds of delegates set to attend the major convention,” he said, hoping that Kenya will also be better recognized by traders and media fraternity from across the continent, Middle East and the Orient, who will be in attendance.
Samsung Electronics Africa President Kwang Kee Park has revealed that Samsung will be focusing on Africa’s top 10 economies, which together generate 79 percent of the continent’s wealth and house almost 47 percent of the population.
“Alongside Kenya, Samsung’s key focus countries will continue to be those with large and growing populations, such as South Africa, Nigeria and Sudan,” Park said.
At this year’s Forum, Ngeru confirmed that Samsung will be stepping up to showcase innovations in Internet-connected TVs, consumer-inspired digital cameras and the latest mobile technology.
Samsung’s marketing drive in the region was catapulted to great heights by the recent World Cup, and just before that the launch of a range of high-end smart phones such as Omnia-Pro and Google Wave.
Though it is embroiled in a dispute with Apple over the IPad technology, Samsung’s Tablet is proving very popular in Nairobi.
