SA indulges Kenya in celebrating Freedom day

April 28, 2011 – South Africa celebrated her 17th anniversary of her attainment of democracy yesterday (27th April). In celebrating this very special day South Africans included Kenyans in their plans. This happened at a dinner held at the Hotel Intercontinental Nairobi.

“South Africa values her partnership with Kenya and the two countries are committed to strengthening their relations. South Africa looks to further strengthen its cooperation and partnership with Kenya”, said the Chief Guest H.E Ndumiso N. Nthshinga (South African High Commissioner to the Republic of Kenya.)

In attendance at the celebratory dinner were a number of Kenya’s senior political leaders including the Speaker of the National Assembly, CEO’s of major companies, senior representatives from academic institutions and NGO’s as well as South African citizens residing in Kenya among other invited guests.

The four course dinner was so well organized and the entertainment did not disappoint. The South African National Anthem was sung and of course there was thanksgiving in word of prayer and several toasts were made.

The Sowetto Jazz ensemble was in the house and they gave us an electrifying performance. Also on stage to conclude the celebrations was a local Kenyan music band The villagers band who also gave an amazing performance.

The celebrations were made possible courtesy of various companies like Haco Tiger Brands, Intercontinental hotel,  Nederburg wines, South African Airways among others.

The speaker spoke positively of the relationship between the two countries and of freedom. In fact he concluded his speech with “Long life to freedom! God bless South Africa. God bless Kenya.”
