March 30, 2011 – The 43rd edition of the Barclays Kenya Open Golf Championship tee-ed off today at Muthaiga Golf Club. Part of the Challenge Tour Schedule for the last 20 years, the Barclays Kenya Open has been a favourite for the spectators and the players.
The Pro-Am event kicked off the 4-day Open which featured approximately 150 local and international golfers. Kenya featured selected Amateurs and about 15 pros for the main event.
Some things to look forward to this weekend:
– The Longest Drive Competition held this Friday, April 1st
– The Charity Shoot held on Saturday, April 2nd
– Hole-In-One: the latest Toyota Prado will be awarded to the first professional player to get a hole-in-one at the 13th hole
– The various hospitality tents from all of the sponsors
Aside from being a crowd and tour favourite, the Kenya Open Golf Championship also attracts many returning local corporate sponsors. The continued support of the Open underscores the local commitment to the development of golf and sports in general in Kenya. Official sponsors such as Dasani, who has been a part of the Open several years, will be hydrating the players and spectators in their hospitality tent, so make sure you go “Treat yourself well”.
Maureen Muzondo from C.I.A., which specializes in experiential marketing, is excited for this year’s event.
“I look forward to seeing the golfers in action. I try to keep track of their continued progress over the years. Also, I enjoy the spectators since they bring a supportive feeling throughout the grounds.”
Make sure you head to the Open this weekend to enjoy some pro-golfing and the excitement of being a spectator on the greens!
