November 8, 2010 – Gladys Shao and Shiverenji Simani were crowned the new Mr & Miss USIU.
The beauty queen and gorgeous prince were put to tears when the judges announced them as the new ambassadors of USIU in the world of fashion and beauty for the next one year.
This happened during a competitive contest that left many at Carnivore amazed.
The models’ catwalk glamour and confidence left no doubt in the audience that proper choreography and lengthy preparations had been done prior to the event.
The creative wear category was a brew of surprises, the most outstanding being an outfit made from compact disks. The others included outfits from sisal, straws, bottle tops, gloves and leaves.
The cultural wear took the audience to the Coast, Maasailand, Western Africa and gave them a preview of the East with the marvelous Indian Saris that spelled an amalgamation of culture.
There was an air of compelling charm, romance, and excitement as the evening wear display was done.
Some showed some skin while others were unable to keep from grinning as the audience chanted their names.
With entertainment from P-unit, 9kon, Sauti Sol and USIU’s own blend of upcoming talent, the contest could not have been better.
The event sponsored by Ovi and steered by Capital FM’s very own Deejay Joe, DJ Protégé and W DJ.
Looking glam was Capital FM’s Joey Muthengi who, in collaboration with two other MCs from USIU made sure that the crowd stayed put. The fashion show was well coordinated.
The Mr & Miss USIU annual beauty contest has indeed proven to be among the biggest events in Kenya’s entertainment calendar and a MUST attend for me.
