George Michael arrested after London car crash

July 7, 2010 – Pop star George Michael has been arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive after crashing his car into a building in the early hours of the morning, British police said Tuesday.

“Police were called at about 3:35 am on Sunday 4th July to a report of a vehicle in collision with a building,” a police statement said.

“Officers attended and a man aged in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive. He was taken to a north London police station and later bailed pending further inquiries to a date in mid August.”

A spokeswoman for Michael, the former star of 1980s pop band Wham!, declined to comment.

In 2006, Michael was found slumped over the wheel of his car and in June 2007 was given a two-year driving ban after pleading guilty to driving while unfit. He claimed he was tired and had been taking prescription drugs.

In August last year, Michael was also questioned by police after his Land Rover car collided with a lorry but he was not charged with any offence and insisted he had done nothing wrong.
