June 23, 2010 – Daughters of Africa ‘The Hope of a Continent’ is a Musical Theater Show produced in Nairobi, Kenya by Mrs. Leoni Jansen (Artistic Producer) and Mr. Peter Ultee (Executive Producer) with the support of a team in Nairobi. The show has a cast of 12 women from eight different countries in Africa; Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. They are backed up by a 7 piece band from 4 countries; Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria and Zambia.
Among these ladies is Neema Ntalel (Local gospel artist) and Christine Apondi (Top ten finalist of East and Southern African Idols 2009)
The Musical Theater show had its very first successful Showcase in Nairobi, Kenya on 16, February 2010, after which it took off for a sixteen week tour in the Netherlands and Belgium with 90 successful shows watched by over 50,000 people.
The message of Women empowerment, Africa’s great potential and Africa’s culture and heritage has been engraved on each individual that witnessed the show. 4,500 CDs and 1,500 DVDs of the show were sold during the tour.
The Daughters of Africa had the privilege to perform for The Princess Maxima (of The Netherlands) during the Official Premiere of the show, H.E Mr. Kofi Anan during the Sustainability conference and for the international corporate society at The Amsterdam dinner (AIDS Gala) on the 5th of June 2010.
The show has already been booked for a four month run in the Netherlands from September 2011.
The producer is currently working on a six month run in Nairobi and eight other Nations in Africa, to be sponsored by one of the leading telecommunications company that operates in Africa. Plans to showcase the musical on Broadway are also in progress as there are a couple of American investors who are interested in this show.
The show’s strength lies in the pure fact that the stories told by all individual casts are true stories that move the audience to open their minds to all possibilities that the African woman brings to her society. This Musical Theater show brings together 9 different Nations to send a positive message of the so called ‘Dark Continent’.
