Esther Arunga charged in court

March 10, 2010 – Former TV presenter Esther Arunga who has dominated news headlines lately for her association with the Finger of God church has been charged in court with being a member of an unlawful society.

Esther denied the charges before Nairobi chief magistrate Gilbert Mutembei, and has been released on a cash bail of Sh20,000.

She was arrested three weeks ago alongside the controversial church leader Joseph Hellon, Quincy Timberlake and other church members, who have all since appeared in court.

Arunga, who now goes by the name Esther Adongo Timberlake after claiming to have gotten married to Quincy, was not arraigned earlier as police awaited a medical report from a professional psychiatrist.

Hellon, his wife Vineyard and the rest of the church members were all released on bail apart from Quincy, who was denied bail for absconding an earlier one given over a different case he is facing at the Makadara Law courts.

The court has now directed that her case will be consolidated with that of Joseph Hellon and Timberlake.

The case has been set for hearing 21st April.
