NAIROBI, November 2, 2009 – Kenyans can now advertise, buy and sell their wares through their mobile phones. This follows the launch of the Safaricom Classified Service.
Speaking at the launch, Safaricom CEO Michael Joseph said with this new service, Kenyans can sell and buy products and services from the convenience of their mobile phones.
In order to buy, a car for example, users will be required to log on www.safaricom.com from their mobile phones, select Classifieds and then Vehicles for Sale. This will give them an opportunity to search all the available models on sale and their details.
Other products and services that are advertised on the mobile portal include jobs, property sale and personals among others.
To advertise a product or service on the mobile portal, subscribers are required to send a short message (SMS) with the details of their products or service, price and contacts to 511. Each advert will cost Sh100 for a period of up to five days.
The launch of the new service comes at a time when Safaricom is widening its data market footprint.
Recently, Safaricom launched another service dubbed Easy Travel which allows travellers to book their airline tickets from their mobile phones through the portal and pay through the M-PESA money transfer service.
