Nina Garcia, fashion director at US Marie Claire and judge on the fashion reality show Project Runway, released The Style Strategy August 25, a guide for budget-conscious women who don’t want to do without shopping even if times are tough.

Already having published the best-selling Little Black Book of Style and The One Hundred, Garcia is taking a slightly different turn this time: “Fashionistas will not only discover a myriad of shopping alternatives sure to help them attain high-end looks at lower prices, but also learn how to maximize what they already have through maintenance, ingenuity, and creative style choices.”

According to Garcia, it is important to ask yourself three questions before buying an item in order to save money while still staying “timelessly chic:” What do I have? What do I need? And: What do I want? In addition, she gives examples of women who have mastered the challenge of being fashionable despite of economic hardship in the past.

The Style Strategy, with illustrations by Ruben Toledo (designer Isabel Toledo’s husband), can be ordered at amazon.com for the recession-friendly price of $14.
