The MTV television series Ignite was launched in the Kenya a few weeks ago, with auditions taking place at the Alliance Francaise. Now, the actors to represent the country in the television series have finally been named, placing them on the verge of continental fame.
Tabitha Methu a.k.a Taj and Joseph Wachu, who were among 10 finalists two weeks ago, are set to feature in the explosive HIV/AIDS awareness drama that will air across the continent in November.
Methu will play bubbly town girl “Eve” while Joseph Wachu will play fast-talking matatu tout “Slick”.
TV newcomer Joseph is a 24-year old college graduate. currently scouting for a sales and marketing job. His previous acting experience is limited to high school drama.
25-year-old Methu, who currently works as a producer and editor at Vivid Features, is also known to local TV audience as Liza-the lead character in weekly TV series, Hila, that airs in KBC on Friday evening.
Taj and Joseph beat runners up Charles Ouda, Whitney Muthoni, Hellen Wario, Ian Gituku, Jasmine Mistri, Bodo Odhiambo, Mercy Njoroge and Peter Kamau to win the coveted roles in the provocative series that explores the lifestyles of urban Kenyan youth.
More than 20,000 people logged on to view clips of the 10 finalists going through their paces, and to cast their votes.
