Just come and visit your Grandma, Obama!

I know that Kenyans have moved on from the disappointing news that US president Barrack Obama will not be gracing the green city in the sun with a visit.

I also know that his feet will not set foot in the great city by the lake, wherein his roots lie. There is nothing we can do about that other than blog and discuss it on different forums.

But it would have been easier to understand Obama’s decision to skip Kenya if he did not have relations here.

And the fact that his paternal Grandma lives in Kenya, makes it difficult to understand how he can make a stop in the neighborhood and completely ignore her.

That is completely un-African.

The least he can do is pay homage to her through a face-to-face meet up.

Even in these days when technology is advanced, I am not sure Skyping with her would be enough – he has to come and say hi.

Obama might not identify with his African roots but it is still important for him to pay homage to his grandmother perhaps over some omena and the traditional brew achwaka.

Then he will become a true jakom.

It is a fact that Obama is a Kenyan whose fate changed while living in the US so there should be no debate about his coming back home.

That is what is expected of him.

He doesn’t even have to fly in through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport because the lakeside has its own international airport and Kogelo is not far off.

I’m sure Grandma’ Sarah would be relived to see her grandson come back to his roots while his uncles will be eager to celebrate the seed planted by one of their own.

His cousins will also be glad to see their long lost cousin and I bet they will lay a red carpet for him or do whatever it takes for him to feel at home.

Obama bi dala, yawa!

  1. … And his grandmother will be able to bless him for the future of Sasha and Malia. America still needs their brilliance!

    1. Obama and his kids are already blessed. They don’t have to come to a corrupt country to attain a blessing. a blessing can be handed even over the phone.

      1. Bea, if blessing can be handed over the phone then why do you think Obama and Michel came for them before he could stand for presidency?!

  2. Obama is on a tour of Africa as the head of state of the USA, as a holder of the highest
public office in his country, not as a member of the Obama family. No one is stopping him from having a family reunion but that should be done in his own time and on his own expense. It is not for US taxpayers to fund his personal trips to visit his family. Whether or not he has family here is irrelevant to his responsibilitites as the president of the US.

Also, I doubt he’s losing sleep over the fact that a you don’t consider him a “true jakom” – whatever that’s supposed to mean to a man who is pretty much considered the most powerful man in the world.
And those roots that you keep shoving down his throat didn’t seem to be an issue when his father abandoned him and his mother

  3. this is ridicule. the writer is obviously saying obama snubbed his relatives in nyanza and not kenya as a country

  4. I know that Kenyans who want an end to tribalism, impunity
and corruption support President Obama’s decision not to visit Kenya, a country
whose president and deputy president are facing crimes against humanity charges
at The Hague. These Kenyans are jubilant that Mr. Obama is not lending the
gravitas of his office to a country whose first president has been implicated
in the assassination of at least 3 political opponents, grabbing land from “raia”
and promoting tribalism and nepotism as a form of governance.

Mr. Obama’s high-powered and impressive secret
service entourage consisting of more than 20 cars will not add to the traffic
jam the city in the sun and Kenya’s capital Nairobbery is notorious for. The
parking boys, the corrupt cops, Mr. Kidero’s efforts notwithstanding, and the
street vendors can continue their daily ngima or life (in Obama’s father’s
    language Dholuo).

Since Mr. Kenyatta and Mr. Ruto have been accused of
the most heinous of crimes – organizing and funding the mass murder of the very
people they now lord over, Mr. Obama’s decision to skip Kenya is easy to
understand. Additionally, that Obama Sr.’s tribe the Luo were marginalized by
the current president’s father Jomo makes it extremely easy to comprehend how
POTUS can swing by Kenya’s neighbors to the south and better examples of tribal
harmony and good governance Tanzania and Madiba Mandela’s South Africa.

Recognizing non-tribal and uncorrupt governance is
completely in-Kenyan. Glad Mr. Obama is American in that regards!

The one thing Mr. Obama can do is let the ICC
process run its course including letting the two “digital” suspects Skype with
    Ms. Bensouda.

Obama and Uhuru can both identify with smoking, the
former even wrote about doing bhangi in his best seller Dreams of my Father. Maybe once the latter is absolved of crimes
against humanity, Mama Ngina can hold a prayer vigil for the two as they
partake in some murat…if achwaka is not readily available. The two
fifty-something can then be true munenes and jambas!

Fortunately for Obama Jr., he grew up in America; a
country which overcame its racist past to elect someone of Luo descent to the White
House before Kenya could overcome its tribal legacy and “elect a Luo” to the
    State House.

Wuod K’Ogelo won’t have to worry whether his Luo
heritage will cause Mr. Kimemia’s goons to stop him and his entourage from
accessing the VIP Lounge. Similarly, he does not have to worry about the crazy
Republicans using photos of him and ICC suspects during the next presidential campaigns!

So while most Kenyans, especially those from the
Lake region would love to see the pomp and power of the American presidency, as
embodied by one of their own, those who want justice for victims of crimes Mr.
Kenyatta and Mr. Ruto are accused of fomenting fully understand Mr. Obama’s
decision not to “biro kuma inego ji mayot and ocha jo kor gi”

  5. He owes his Kenyan grandmother NOTHING! His father abandoned him, remember…..he first came to Kenya just to make peace with his roots & he did, and moved on. But you do not expect a grown-up man well past twenty years of age to meet his enstranged family after suffering abandonment issues & start planning for yearly family vacations to the beach with them. His mother, maternal grandma & granddad were his real pillars….

  6. Are you aware that the so called granny is a stepgranny not the real one. This is a nother fake lie from Luoland, after stolen elections, Kethis stolen slips, stolen sirens.
