President Kibaki’s Christmas goodwill message to Kenyans

MWAI KIBAKI

It is a great pleasure for me to send this message of special greetings and goodwill to the Christian community during this season in which we celebrate Christmas.

Christmas is a season of great rejoicing when Christians commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. Indeed, the true essence of Christmas is the celebration of the wondrous love of God that he demonstrated for us by sending his one and only son, Jesus Christ to this world to save us by suffering and dying on the cross for our sins.

Christmas, therefore, prompts us to acknowledge God’s love and goodness to all of us. As Christians, it is fitting that we give thanks to God for preserving our lives and providing for our needs according to His immeasurable riches in glory.

As individuals and collectively as a nation, we certainly have many reasons to thank God for. Through His grace, we have managed to surmount various challenges we faced along the way and recorded improved performance on the economy, agriculture, infrastructure, among others. Let us reciprocate this love by giving ourselves back for God’s service.

I urge Kenyans to also remember that the spirit of the Christmas season is that of peace, love and goodwill. It is the time of giving and sharing. I urge you, in the spirit of this season, to make an effort to extend a helping hand to those in our society who are in need. May you spread love to all those you meet and let everyone feel the love of Christ.

As you congregate in various places of worship, I urge you all to continue praying for our nation. Let us also exercise extreme caution on our roads as we travel to various parts of the country this festive season. We have new traffic laws in place and I urge our police officers to strictly enforce them to avoid unnecessary loss of lives through road accidents.

We also remember members of our security forces who are performing various duties within and outside our borders. We pray for their security as they seek to secure our country.

May you enjoy this beautiful season of Christmas and may it fill your hearts with warmth, peace and joy.

Merry Christmas.

(Mwai Kibaki, CGH, MP is the President of the Republic of Kenya)
