If you have ever seen the New Zealand Rugby team play, you must be familiar with the powerful, intimidating and synchronized dance that sends shivers down the spine of opponents. Students at the Palmerston North Boys’ High School in New Zealand performed the Haka at the funeral of their beloved teacher.

“This was a very emotional and powerful performance. We are extremely proud of our boys’ performance and we know that Mr. Tamatea would be too,” said the school on its YouTube channel. The video has gone viral hitting 1 million views less than two days.

While most associate the Haka performance akin to a war cry, the dance associated to the All Blacks originates from the Maori people of New Zealand dating back to the 18th century. It was performed during various occasions including welcoming distinguished guests, celebrating achievements or funerals.
