The University of Nairobi’s Genius Digital Brands emerged winners in the Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK) gala awards, student’s challenge. Genius submitted the best digital marketing plan for an upcoming youth band – Yellow Light Machine – beating 28 other entrants from different universities.
The MSK Gala aimed to awards to recognise innovative marketing campaigns across the industry. The student category was introduced last year and is designed to bring out creative marketing ideas by students. The student challenge run from mid-October to mid-November and was sponsored by Capital Campus, MSK and What’s Good Studios.
Genius Digital Brands won the category in spite of the fact that the five students are all Quantity Surveying students. Cynthia Moira, Mwihaki Muriranja, Leah Kanda, Dennis Munyasi and Kevin Tichilo won a cash prize of 100,000 and a 3 month internship which will see the team implement their digital marketing plan for Yellow Light Machine band.
Another UoN team, W.A.O, was 1st runners up while Strathmore’s Nitro Agency was 2nd runners up.
Yellow Light Machine, the focus of the MSK Students’ Marketing Challenge filled the dome with their sweet melodies and bringing warmth despite the chilly weather. Yellow Light Machine band members were dressed in Ankara ensemble and entertained the event’s attendants well into the night with some of their best songs from their repertoire that had listeners swaying to the lovely music.
The MSK students’ challenge is held annually and seeks to grow and nurture the next generation of business leaders.
