According to an article posted on the official Strathmore University site on 17th February, the university has made a strategic partnership with One University Network to offer smart-phone based degrees.
The partnership will allow for the university to offer mobile courses to students across Africa. The degrees offered will receive close guidance from lecturers at the university at a competitive price, making the service more accessible to many. The degree will be like any other inclusive of reading material, assignments and continuous assessment that will be held at a designated test centre to evaluate the students’ understanding the course material.
The new platform could transform education in the region, making learning convenient, accessible and more affordable to many that could help the nation realize a larger percentage of highly educated youth. It was noted that One University Network, Chief Executive Officer, Gene Wade said, “We are extremely excited to partner with Strathmore University to help educate Kenya’s next generation of leaders through this transformative offering. Kenya has been a world leader in mobile adoption and we are confident that through Strathmore Mobile the nation will become a leader in mobile higher education. We are committed to realizing this vision together with Strathmore.”
