Talent Got Her A TED Global Gig


World renowned for her immense talent, Kenyan percussionist Kasiva Mutua is known for blazing a trail for female percussionists. According to a recent post on CNN African Voices, Ms. Mutua is set to speak onstage at the TED Global stage. The event to be held in Arusha, Tanzania from August 27th- August 30 is set to bring together some of Africa’s brightest stars.  Under the theme “Builders, Truth-tellers, Catalysts”  the event hopes to celebrate human ingenuity by exploring ideas, innovation, and creativity from all around the world.


CNN described  Kasiva as “an international touring percussionist, pioneering a revolution in her Kenyan community where it is a taboo for women to play drums.” The only Kenyan on the speakers’ list, Kasiva will also be joined with other African pioneers including Kolanyane-Kesupile, who is Botswana’s first publicly open transgender public figure. Zimbabwean comedian Carl Joshua Ncube, who’s material focuses on dispelling Africa’s most taboo topics of religion and politics will also speak at the event. Also on the line-up is Uganda thespian, director and playwright Adong Judith. There will be 10 speakers attending the TED Global 2017 talks and it sets to spur growth and renewed thinking amongst Africans.
