Osborne Macharia is the only Kenyan who has been selected to be part of the Cannes Lions Awards 2018 Jury. The talented photographer announced the great news via Instagram gushing over his prestigious appointment saying “… this young Kenyan representing Kenya for the very first time. What an honor ”
Macharia, a famed photographer, and digital artist came to the spotlight a while back after highlighting the elderly in a beautiful photo-shoot project dubbed ‘Nyanye’. The Cannes Lions Awards gala will take place on June 18th, 2018, just as the Cannes Film Festival reaches its end.
Apart from working with global brands such as Mercedes-Benz, he was commissioned by Disney to create exclusive artwork for the movie Black Panther earlier this year. He has also been named amongst Africa’s top 15 creative influencers in the continent by CSA Radar. Among his many other accomplishments, Osborne also did a photoshoot for the Oprah Winfrey produced TV series Queen Sugar under his K63 Studios.
The Cannes Lions Awards celebrates creativity in art and advertising and the jury usual consist of 413 members. The awards are the most coveted in the marketing and communications sector and several Kenyan companies have brought the lion home. The jury is responsible for going through the submitted work and shortlisting the best works to be awarded.
