Maseno University students have been announced the winners of the Nairobi Securities Exchange NSE Investment Challenge.
Mangila Kombe, Leonard Muombi and Kennedy Macharia received a cash prize of Sh300,000 after trouncing 7,309 students who participated in the challenge.
The students presented the best investment decision in East Africa across East Africa.The competition is a corporate social responsibility initiative of the bourse.
“These numbers are a testimony of our youth’s yearning to learn more about our capital markets and gain practical experiences,” NSE chairman Edward Njoroge said.
Mr Njoroge said that NSE believed in having informed investors.
The financial literacy programme, founded in partnership with Smart Youth Investment Limited and sponsored by NIC Securities, targets to empower youths attending universities and other tertiary institutions with knowledge on investing and savings.
This year the challenge had participants from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan and Rwanda who were given Sh3 million virtual start-up capital and used NSE real-time prices for a period of three months.
