11-time Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar has won a Pulitzer Prize.
Kendrick Lamar Duckworth who released “DAMN” in 2017 has made history as the first rapper to win the prestigious award. The Pulitzer Prize is an award for literary achievements in newspaper, magazine and online journalism, literature, and musical composition in the United States. With 20 categories, there is high honor associated with the prize, with former winners of the Pulitzer Prize for Music including classical and jazz composers the likes of Gian Carlo Menotti and Melinda Wagner.
Kendrick Lamar’s win is an evolution in the appreciation of rap music. Being recognized at the awards, host Dana Canedy describes Lamar’s album as “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.”
Lamar is yet to comment on the iconic win online. As a winner for the Music category, K-Dot walks away with a certificate and $15,000, champ change for the artist who is worth over $18M. Kendrick has been on a winning streak that began early this year. He took to Instagram to promote his CORTEX+KENNY I release in early January, his latest shoe collaboration with the megabrand Nike.
It seems 2018 can only get better for Kendrick.
