In his latest release from his album 4:44, Hall of Famer Jay -Z takes more creative liberties which have his audience, fans and critics alike super confused.
In the track “Moonlight” the video starts off with an all black cast of actors including Insecure’s Issa Rae, Girls Trip’s Tiffany Haddish, Tessa Thompson, Lil Rey Howery, Lakeith Stanfield and even Jerrod Carmicheal. The cast of six is aptly used by Jay Z to shine a light on the racial bias African Americans experience in Hollywood.
The short feature titled “Moonlight” puts a spin on the classic comedy FRIENDS and leaves heads spinning with references to the Academy Award winner Moonlight that was initially overlooked for the musical La La Land that featured Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling as lead characters. The visual album has already stirred lots of controversy with many hoping to decipher the hidden meanings of some of the album’s most misunderstood tracks, Moonlight seems to be no different.
