IKEA Seek Out Africa’s Best Designers For Collaboration


According to CNN International, the Swedish retail giant Ikea, is seeking out Africa’s best designers. In collaboration with Design Indaba, a group of select designers had a chance to influence designs and share Africa’s unique take on style to the world. In an interview with CNN International, Marcus Engman, Design Manager at IKEA said recently: “The creative explosion which is taking place in several cities around Africa right now is something IKEA is curious about. We want to learn from this and spread it to the rest of the world. Working together with these designers and creatives gives us the opportunity to do so.”

The list of designers includes Bethan Rayner and Naeem Biviji, Bibi Seck, Christian Benimana Hend Riad and Mariam Hazem, Issa Diabaté, Laduma Ngxokolo, Paula Nascimento, Renee Rossouw, Selly Raby Kane and Sindiso Khumalo will be working with Mikael Axelsson, Kevin Gouriou, Hanna Dalrot and Johanna Jelenik from IKEA according to Trace TV. The designers contributed their ideas in the collaborative effort during the Design Indaba Conference that was held in Cape Town 1 to 3 March 2017. The collection created by the cohort of African designers is set to launch in 2019.
