FBI dance-crew struggle to get government funding for global competition

FBI dance crew is set to make history.

As the only African dance crew registered to attend the prestigious World Hip Hop International competition, the team of 10 will not only represent Kenya but the African continent on the global stage.

Known for their dynamic performances, FBI will be returning to the competition for their third time, however it seems this year things will be different. The famed troupe of dancers have made a name for themselves locally and internationally. However, it seems despite their efforts to keep the Kenyan flag flying high, the team is yet to receive support from government.

Crew-member Ramadhan Nyachio speaking to Capital Campus stated, “after speaking to the Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture they claimed that they lack funding.” Sadly, this talented crew might miss out on a great opportunity on a grand stage due to cases of corruption and misappropriation of funds. Indeed, it would be such a shame to hinder Kenya’s talent from making it in the global stage.

Nonetheless, the crew is determined to make it to Phoenix, Arizona where the event will be held. So far, their ingenuity in fundraising has lead them to raise enough for 5 tickets, with funding for airfare of 5 other crew-members as well as accommodation before their departure set for August 1st.
