Ernst and Young removes degree requirement for graduate level jobs



Ernst & Young UK has knocked off degree requirement from its entry criteria, citing there is no evidence linking academic excellence to career success.

The Huffington Post reports the professional service firm has scrapped the minimum degree qualification and three B grades at A-level to give a chance to talented individuals “regardless of their background.”

EY, however, clarifies they will still consider academic papers but will lay more emphasis on online assessments to judge the potential of applicants.

“Our own internal research of over 400 graduates found that screening students based on academic performance alone is too blunt an approach to recruitment. It found no evidence to conclude that previous success in higher education correlated with future success in subsequent professional qualifications undertaken,” Maggie Stilwell, EY’s managing partner for talent told Huffington Post.

The move also aims to give gifted students from less privileged backgrounds, but without the necessary papers, a chance to pursue a career in the professional services sector.
