The Director of Public Prosecutions has recalled a criminal file involving former University of Nairobi SONU aspirant Mike Jacobs for further directions.
Jacobs who was arrested yesterday has since been released on a free bond when he appeared before Milimani court magistrate Charity Oluoch at the DPP’s request.
He was due to face arson and destruction of property charges in relation to the recent student’s unrest at the institution. However, the plea was postponed following the new development.
Jacobs was arrested yesterday evening and he spent the night at the Central Police station.
He is among 69 UoN students who were expelled for leading violent demonstrations last month that led to the closure of the institution after a group of students disputed the controversial election of Babu Owino as chair of SONU.
Jacobs’ arrest comes five days after the current SONU chairman Babu was arrested and charged with assaulting Jacobs in the hotly contested student elections.
