DevFest to empower student developers

Google, in collaboration with @ilabAfrica will is hosting The Elections DevFest at the Strathmore University Business School.

The workshop, which will run until February 16th, is themed “Software Solutions for Elections”. It will bring together innovators from various universities across Kenya and experienced developers. The students will learn about the latest programming technology they can use to develop elections-specific Apps using the IEBC application programming interface (API).

The event will encourage students to develop creative solutions that will enable Kenyans to monitor the elections more closely, locate important resource centers such as polling stations, and report any emergent issues.

The programme has been designed to encourage creativity and enterprise in mobile App development among students, to provide an interactive forum for information exchange, and to increase the tech-preneurial spirit in universities. The Elections DevFest will provide an important foundation for similar student-led forums in future.

Google will announce the five winning Apps at a briefing which will be held on Wednesday, 20th February, 2013.
