In his new track, Davido Nigerian would- be-star, let’s down fans with substandard music and rhymes. Known to be innovative, Davido also known as David Adedeji Adeleke debuted his new song “Coolest Kid In Africa”. Collaborating with Nasty C, a young South African rapper, the flow of the song mimics that of a typical trap song from Atlanta. The video features nothing new, with the usual half-naked video girls and fast cars making up for the bulk of the video concept.
24 and known for major continental hits such as “Aye” Davido’s latest song is a mish-mash of hip-hop and Nigerian sound. The lyrics sound thrown together with no real harmony or rhythm. Working with a new kid on the continental scene, Davido is outdone by the19-year-old Nasty C who coincidentally is also named David. Shared on social media, its clear Nasty could not hide his excitement for the collaboration with Davido, evidently stating he looked up to the Nigerian pop star. Though this track is not his first hit, Nasty has worked with Hip-hop’s best like South Africa’s Cassper Nyovest.
It seems that Davido may have lost his African identity in search of the universal sound. It is important to remember that those who are true to themselves make more progress. Davido’s new track just proves that keeping what makes you uniquely African in your craft is your distinguishing factor and is something to celebrate. Although the song did no good for Davido, at least a breakout star has come into the spotlight. Africa watch out for Nasty C.
