Dear Babu,

Known for your antics as student leader of the University of Nairobi, Babu you have led one of East Africa’s most prestigious university to enforce various reforms including including student welfare, HELB loans as well as tuition fee hikes. A man who always had the support of his people, you have been¬† a leader who redefined what it means to be a rogue leader during your tenure at University of Nairobi. A common feature on media headlines for your high spending habits and even arrests on the account of being a public nuisance, it is time that you shed your bad boy look and step into a new chapter of your life.

Now as an elect Member of Parliament for Embakasi East constituency,¬† you have made a great transition from the student political scene, moving on into national politics. As a Member of Parliament, a father of one, you are no longer expected to advocate for student’s cafeteria needs but now your duties will include policy making as a member of the August House. You will be incharge of not only the making of policies but also the efficient spending of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) which in 2016 was at 81M. We hope you do not misuse these funds to finance your lavish parties, but rather use it to better the lives of your constituents.

Your constituents expect nothing but the best from you and further more the comrades you once led expect you to do them proud. Put aside the silly antics that saw you became a mainstay on Kenya’s media headlines and instead acknowledge that it’s time for you to get down and dirty. Time you roll up those sleeves and get to work. If you are up for the challenge, before your first day reporting for duty, it is important that you understand your duties are Member of Parliament. Read them, understand them. Remember the youth are always watching to see what you brand of leadership truly means. I hope that your intrepretation of “servant leadership” really has you embrace humility to serve those who elected you.
