An American university has created a ‘cry closet’ for stressed-out students.

Nemo Miller, a student, and visual artist the University of Utah in the United States has created the person-sized box in their campus library – dubbed the ‘box of tears’ – where students can spend time in when they feel the pressure of university gets too much.

After images of the box went viral on Twitter and people accused the students of being too “fragile”, Nemo defended his decision to create the box by saying it promotes a “safe place for stressed-out students”.

There are ground rules for anyone who wants to visit and only one person is allowed in at a time, everyone has to knock before entering and students are encouraged to talk about their experience using the hashtag #cryclosetuofu.
