Aiesec Strathmore University chapter have come up with a charity campaign to raise funds for HIV/AIDS orphaned children in Nyeri.

Members of AIESEC Strathmore have teamed up with University of Maastritch (Netherlands) to come up with an initiative dubbed ‘Kilimanjaro Aid to AIDS’.

“The initiative involves raising funds and thereafter climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. Our main aim is to climb the highest mountain in Africa to show that anything is possible. We can do anything no matter how big it is,” says Fahad Adil, the Vice President of the Global Community Development Programme.

Fahad and his team are looking for sponsors to help fund the project.

“Our biggest challenge has been looking for willing sponsors. Most companies do not take us seriously and never get back to us. We plan to keep pushing for sponsors and finding other ways to get the money.”

The organizing team is planning to raise funds through cake sales, sponsorship forms and selling Aiesec merchandise.

“Our target is Ksh.1million and so far we have about Ksh.100,000. We plan to achieve this target by August,” says Fahad.

The climb to Mt. Kilimanjaro takes place for one week, from August 24th to 30th. Anyone can take part in the climb. All proceeds go towards an NGO called Masterpiece in Nyeri that houses HIV positive orphans.
