There must be something special about a TV series that is consistently ranked as one of the best crime dramas. The Wire is a story set in Baltimore, US, where one investigation exposes the inner workings of law enforcement institutions with each progressing episode. What made The Wire special (premiered in 2002 with the 60th episode ending in 2008), was its ability to make the viewers think and explore issues of mega cities; from politics, police, media and the school system. Several universities such as John Hopkins, Brown University and Harvard have offered classes on The Wire. The series has also been nominated and won several awards.
