300 media practitioners graduate at KIMC



The Kenya Institute of mass communication (KIMC) held its graduation where over 300 graduates were awarded with Diplomas and certificates in various disciplines.


The Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Information communications and technology Dr. Fred Matiangi, who graced the occasion, awarded certificates to students in information, radio and television, film, engineering and post graduate studies.


The colorful event marks the culmination of 4 years of intense and hands on Mass Communication studies.


The graduates of KIMC form the backbone of expert personnel manning the countries Broadcasting stations, media production houses, daily Newspapers and country’s news agency.


“We offer quality curriculum and hands-on experience training to some of the accomplished journalists in the country. Though with limited resources like training ground, the college emerged overall number 2 out of 15 institutions in sports,” said the dean of students Mr. Mwangi Kithure.

Established in 1965 as a training centre for the then Voice of Kenya, KIMC has trained thousands journalists, announcers, programme producers, technical producers and other professional in mass communication field.


KIMC is working towards attaining a semi autonomous status as it seeks to become a university. It is currently offering bachelors and masters degree studies in collaboration with University of Nairobi school of Journalism.

Minimum admission requirement for certificate programme is C- minus in KCSE, C for a Diploma course and to qualify for a postgraduate diploma in mass communication, a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university is necessary.


KIMC has Information department which offers Diplomas in print and broadcast journalism, television and radio programme, film and video production, engineering electronics and telecommunication studies and Postgraduate Training and Research.


KIMC is equipped with two television studios;-a film studio and a media production centre.A radio station called “ECN 104.7 FM”. ECN refers to Education Communication Network.
