{"id":91861,"date":"2024-01-03T13:42:54","date_gmt":"2024-01-03T10:42:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/business\/?p=91861"},"modified":"2024-01-03T16:02:18","modified_gmt":"2024-01-03T13:02:18","slug":"uganda-takes-kenya-to-the-east-african-court-over-fuel-import-saga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/business\/2024\/01\/uganda-takes-kenya-to-the-east-african-court-over-fuel-import-saga\/","title":{"rendered":"Uganda takes Kenya to the East African Court over fuel import saga"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"color: #252525\"><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 3 &#8211; Uganda has taken Kenya to the East African Court of Justice after it was denied a permit to operate in the country as well as export fuel to the neighboring nation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"color: #252525\">\n<p class=\"ContentPasted3\" style=\"color: #252525\">Kenyan authorities failed to issue the license to the\u00a0Ugandan National Oil Corporation after failing to meet requirements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentPasted3\" style=\"color: #252525\">The Ministry of Energy and the Energy and Petroleum Authority requested ENOC to get an import, export, and wholesale license so that its petroleum products could access <span class=\"ContentPasted3\" style=\"color: #252525\">Kenya Pipeline Company&#8217;s<\/span>\u00a0storage and transportation infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentPasted2 ContentPasted3\" style=\"color: #252525\">UNOC was also asked to show an annual sale of 6,600 cubic metres of either a combination of premium motor spirit or automotive gasoline, among others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"color: #252525\">It was also required to show an annual turnover of $10 million as well as proof of ownership or long-term lease of one licensed petroleum bulk storage depot in Kenya.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525\">Uganda imports a bulk (about 90 percent) of its refined petroleum products through the Port of Mombasa before being transported to the East African nation via the KPC pipeline.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525\">President Yoweri Museveni said fuel prices in Uganda were huge after Kenya signed government-to-government fuel import deals with Saudi Aramco, Abu Dhabi National Oil Corporation, and Emirates National Oil Company.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 3 &#8211; Uganda has taken Kenya to the East African Court of Justice after it was denied a permit to operate in the country as well as export fuel to the neighboring nation.
