{"id":83405,"date":"2023-03-08T15:28:43","date_gmt":"2023-03-08T12:28:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/business\/?p=83405"},"modified":"2023-03-08T15:28:43","modified_gmt":"2023-03-08T12:28:43","slug":"safaricom-increases-its-fixed-internet-market-share-to-46-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/business\/2023\/03\/safaricom-increases-its-fixed-internet-market-share-to-46-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Safaricom increases its fixed internet market share to 46.1%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"color: #252525\"><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 8 &#8211; Safaricom grew its fixed internet market share to 46.1 percent in the three months to December 2022, representing nearly half of all new connections in the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525\">Latest data from the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) shows that its number of data subscriptions increased by 22, 148, to 372, 872.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525\">In the July and September quarters of last year, its market share stood at 35.6 percent, representing 350,724.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525\">&#8220;During the quarter under review, Safaricom PLC recorded the highest market shares in fixed data subscriptions at 46.1 percent followed by Wananchi Group at 31.1 percent,&#8221; CA says in the Second Quarter Statistics for the financial year 2022\/23 (1<sup style=\"color: #252525\">st<\/sup> October-31<sup style=\"color: #252525\">st<\/sup> Dec 2022)<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525\">The telco now controls the sector, which also includes Wananchi, which owns Faiba.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525\">Its dominance in the fixed internet market is attributed to huge investment in fixed internet connectivity across the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525\">Safaricom is followed by Wananchi Group (Kenya) Limited, or Faiba, with 251,340 subscribers (31.1 percent of the market), and Poa Internet Kenya Ltd. with 120,168 subscribers (14.9 percent).<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525\">Poa Internet, which is an affordable internet provider, displaced Jamii Telecommunications Ltd.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525\">Others are Liquid Telecommunications Kenya 17,837 (2.2 percent), Mawingu Networks Ltd. 14,951 (1.8 percent), and Dimension Data Solutions East Africa Limited 13,950 (1.7 percent), among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 8 &#8211; Safaricom grew its fixed internet market share to 46.1 percent in the three months to December 2022, representing nearly half of all new connections in the country.
