NAIROBI, Kenya Aug 13 \u2013 The government has suspended the Sh100 unga subsidy announced last month by President Uhuru Kenyatta.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The government had offered to pay millers so as to bring down the cost of unga which had hit Sh230 per 2 kilogram packet.<\/p>\n

The announcement suspending the subsidy was made by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.<\/p>\n

“Due to inadequate exchequer releases from the National Treasury, it has been decided that, the Maize Flour Subsidy Program be suspended with immediate effect,” Munya said.<\/p>\n

Last month, Uhuru announced stimulus measures to cushion Kenyans against the high cost of living, effectively lowering the cost of maize flour.<\/p>\n

In the measures, the Head of State said a 2kilogram-packet of Unga would retail at Sh100 down from an average of Sh225 following talks with millers at State House, Nairobi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
