{"id":55054,"date":"2019-01-10T16:04:53","date_gmt":"2019-01-10T13:04:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/business\/?p=55054"},"modified":"2019-01-10T16:05:21","modified_gmt":"2019-01-10T13:05:21","slug":"lancet-laboratories-merge-africa-operations-with-cerba-healthcare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/business\/2019\/01\/lancet-laboratories-merge-africa-operations-with-cerba-healthcare\/","title":{"rendered":"Lancet Laboratories merge Africa operations with Cerba HealthCare"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_55055\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/business\/files\/2019\/01\/LANCET-LAB.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55055\" src=\"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/business\/files\/2019\/01\/LANCET-LAB.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"630\" height=\"350\" class=\"size-full wp-image-55055\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/business\/files\/2019\/01\/LANCET-LAB.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/business\/files\/2019\/01\/LANCET-LAB-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-55055\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Through the newly-formed Cerba Lancet Africa, the Joint Venture will serve millions of health professionals and patients across Africa, providing internationally-accredited, high-quality pathology services for timely and accurate diagnosis of a wide variety of illnesses and their effective management\/COURTESY<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 10 &#8211; Medical laboratory services provider Lancet Laboratories that operates in Kenya and 14 other African countries and its leading counterpart in Europe Cerba HealthCare have merged operations in a joint Venture. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The move is aimed at strengthening the provision of effective, evidence-based healthcare across Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Through the newly-formed Cerba Lancet Africa, the Joint Venture will serve millions of health professionals and patients across Africa, providing internationally-accredited, high-quality pathology services for timely and accurate diagnosis of a wide variety of illnesses and their effective management.<\/p>\n<p>Cerba Lancet Africa will now manage a network of more than 100 laboratories previously owned by Lancet across 11 African countries including Kenya with over 1,400 employees serving more than 1.3 million patients a year, and generating over Sh5 billion in turnover in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The JV covers operations in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Botswana, Ghana, Mozambique,<br \/>\nNigeria, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. <\/p>\n<p>However, Lancet\u2019s operations in the Republic of South Africa, where its headquaters is based, will not be part of the Joint Venture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLancet\u2019s brand will be retained in all countries where Lancet Group of Laboratories are already operating, including in Kenya where it is incorporated as Pathologists Lancet Kenya (PLK) and operates 38 labs and service points across the country, with Lancet Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda as PLK\u2019s subsidiaries,\u201d the joint statement read. <\/p>\n<p>The Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) in December 2018, , approved the deal for the new JV to take over Lancet Laboratories South Africa\u2019s shareholding while retaining the local shareholder Dr Ahmed Kalebi, since the transaction met the threshold for exclusion<br \/>\nspecified in the Mergers Threshold Guidelines under the CAK Act. <\/p>\n<p>The legal notice from CAK is expected to be published in the Kenya Gazette in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur common goal is to develop medical services in regions where we are already present and to expand into other countries.
