{"id":112501,"date":"2026-02-13T14:04:42","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T11:04:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/business\/?p=112501"},"modified":"2026-02-13T14:04:42","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T11:04:42","slug":"kenya-leads-africa-with-50-startup-funding-deals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/business\/2026\/02\/kenya-leads-africa-with-50-startup-funding-deals\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya leads Africa with 50 startup funding deals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 13 \u2013 Kenyan startups secured 50 funding deals last year, the highest in Africa, according to the latest Germany-Africa Investment Report covering 2015\u20132025.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The report by the Africa Investment Bridge initiative shows Nigeria followed with 34 deals, Tanzania with 24, South Africa 19 and Ghana 17, reinforcing Nairobi\u2019s position as East Africa\u2019s leading innovation hub.<\/p>\n<p>African founders in AgTech and Fintech accounted for 51 percent of German-backed deals, highlighting strong investor interest in mobile money innovation and agricultural technology.<\/p>\n<p>Health and education also gained momentum between 2020 and 2025, reflecting Africa\u2019s development priorities and growing population.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe data tells a clear story: African founders are building solutions that work in agriculture, financial services, health, and climate adaptation,\u201d said Sebastian Gentry, Head of Programs at the Westerwelle Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis report is designed to reduce the information asymmetry that keeps international capital on the sidelines.
