{"id":106690,"date":"2025-07-23T13:50:27","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T10:50:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/business\/?p=106690"},"modified":"2025-07-23T13:50:27","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T10:50:27","slug":"kenya-cleared-to-export-miraa-to-djibouti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/business\/2025\/07\/kenya-cleared-to-export-miraa-to-djibouti\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya cleared to export miraa to Djibouti"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, July 23 &#8211; Kenya\u2019s miraa (khat) farmers and exporters have received a major boost following the clearance of the stimulant crop for export to Djibouti.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), in a statement Wednesday, disclosed that trade negotiations between the two countries have paved the way for legal and regulated access to the Djibouti market.<\/p>\n<p>The development follows a trade mission to Djibouti in October 2024 and a reciprocal visit by a Djibouti delegation to Kenya in November 2024.<\/p>\n<p>These engagements led to a bilateral agreement allowing Kenyan miraa into Djibouti, provided exporters meet all regulatory requirements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new development marks a major milestone in diversifying Kenya\u2019s miraa export markets,\u201d said AFA Director General Bruno Linyiru.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe traders are encouraged to take advantage of this new commercial opportunity and link up with buyers in Djibouti for business engagements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Lunyirio, exporters interested in accessing the Djibouti market must comply with the country\u2019s import regulations.<\/p>\n<p>These include obtaining relevant permits and adhering to product quality and safety standards.
