Sistema Bio opens world’s largest biodigester in India, eyes more Kenyan farmers

NAIROBI, Kenya, June 8 – Biodigester manufacturer Sistema Bio has launched the largest biodigester manufacturing facility in Pune, India, a move the company says will reduce carbon emissions.

The company observes that Kenya is leading in Africa when it comes to policies on biogas as well as biogas investment on the continent.

Therefore, the unveiling of the plant will have far-reaching effects on cutting down carbon dioxide emissions in Kenya and by extension the whole of Africa.

“This groundbreaking achievement aligns with the company’s ambitious goal of reducing 1% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030,” said Sistema Bio Chief Executive Officer Alexander Eaton.

He further observed that the facility serves as a global benchmark for innovative technology and efficient business operations, creating a profound impact worldwide.

The facility that spans a whooping 130,000 square feet boasts an annual production capacity of 100,000 biodigesters, which will impact the lives of 600,000 farmers and capture up to 1 million tons of carbon dioxide annually.

Sistema Bio observes that the facility will speed up meeting the growing demand for energy access and fertilizing solutions among smallholder farmers in the Asia Pacific, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America regions, where Sistema Bio operates across 31 countries.

Sistema Bio further indicates that currently 17,000 farmers use its biodigesters in the country.

The company says it is looking at more than doubling that figure over the next two years and reducing the country’s carbon emissions by over 1.5 million tons.
