This is according to the World Intellectual Property Organization, which ranks countries across the globe based on their innovation capabilities.

Innovations were measured on roughly 80 indicators, including literary and artistic work as well as commerce.

“The Global Innovation Index aims to capture the multi-dimensional facets of innovation”, reads the report.

However, the country dropped three positions from 85th in 2021.

The report further revealed that Kenya performed better in innovation outputs than innovation inputs last year.

As for innovation outputs, the report observes that Kenya ranks 79th. This position is lower than both 2021 and 2020.

The country, however, ranks 13th among the 36 lower-middle-income group economies and 4th among the 27 economies in Sub-Saharan Africa.
