Safaricom appoints new chief consumer Business officer

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 22 – Safaricom has appointed Fawzia Ali as its new Chief Consumer Business Officer.

In the role, Ali will be crucial in growing the telco’s market share and consumer solutions through product development, digital CVM, terminal strategy, and customer insights.

In July 2022, she took over the position in an acting capacity while dabbling as Mobile Data Tribe Lead.

She first joined Safaricom in 2007 as a senior manager reporting on accounts receivable and M-Pesa.

Ali later served as the Head of Consumer Planning and Pricing within Finance before taking up a sales role as the Head of Regional Sales and Operations—Coast.

In 2018, Fauzia was appointed as the head of consumer segments, and in 2019, she became the head of digital products and services.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer Peter Ndegwa said Fawzia has been one of the champions at the company’s leadership level with over 20 years’ experience in finance, sales, and commercial

She has held this role in an acting capacity since July 2022 and has provided exemplary leadership and inspiration to the team during this period. She has also served as a Safaricom Foundation Trustee from 2015 to 2022 and mentors female colleagues as part of Safaricom’s Women in Leadership program.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Technology from the University of Nairobi and a Master’s in Business Administration from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

She is also a Certified Public Accountant in Kenya.
