NAIROBI, Kenya Aug 8- Meta otherwise known as Facebook has announced that it will shut down its live shopping feature on October 1.
Facebook revealed on its blog post after this date members will not be able to schedule or host live shopping events on the app and that it will shift its focus on Reels instead.
“We are shifting our focus to Reels on Facebook and Instagram, Meta’s short-form video product,” the firm said.
The firm stated that if one wants to engage other people through videos they should use reels. Users have an added-in that they can tag their products on Instagram.
“You can also tag products in Reels on Instagram to enable deeper discovery and consideration.”
Livestream video shopping had become publicly available on Facebook two years ago but it first debuted in 2018.
The feature was designed so as to give brands and creators an interactive way of selling their products and potentially getting new consumers.
Last November they began testing a live stream shopping event for creators which allowed them to cross-stream on both of their pages, as opposed to having to direct users to a single page.
